Road to Freedom

Road To Freedom is Spellbinding!!

Once you pick this book up, cancel everything you’ve got scheduled for the rest of the day!
Ms. Hubbard has managed once again to develop a story line so powerful and so gripping, with twists and turns that take the reader through every emotion in their arsenal! I swear I can’t figure out why she would give this book out for free, except that once she has you hooked, you’ll buy all of her works.
The character of Whitney is as 360 as it gets. The reader takes compassion on her and wants her to get everything her heart desires, but in the end Whitney has to realize what it is about herself that makes her hold out; effectively holding herself back from just that. Why can she be so generous with her sister Erika, to the point of playing match-maker, and yet be so opposed to her own happiness?
If you have read any of Ms. Hubbard’s other books, you will see the correlation between characters and her writing style is always full of danger, suspense, eroticism, passion, and most importantly unconditional love.
Fast paced and hard to put down!

Annalea, Princess of Nemusmar

Annalea, Princess of Nemusmar

After reading the first paragraph of this novel, you’ll probably conclude that this is a book about pirates. This is not a book about pirates. Okay, there are a few pirates in the book. (Okay, there are quite a few pirates in the book.) But this is not a book that is just about pirates. There are many other types of characters cast in this story, including slaves, former slaves, slavers, merchants, colonists, American Indians, seamen and harlots, and–of course–the child who journeys to womanhood while living among them, Annalea. The cast, and the variation of character types, grows in proportion to the adventures presented in this novel. No, this is not a book about pirates.

If, for you, the pleasure of reading a novel comes from intimate familiarity with strong characters and a sense of sharing in their lives and adventures, then you will thoroughly enjoy reading the saga of Annalea.

Nemusmar?

“If you have ever seen an orchid, put that flower in your mind. And in the heart of that orchid is where you be. And all around you–streaming towards you and away–are exotic colours: vibrant, yet somehow soft and soothing. And when the mist-laden petals of night fall about, you are wrapped up, safely hidden in a beautiful cocoon. Aye, that was Nemusmar!”

Worse, the new agency team directing the advertising for third-party candidate Niles VanBuhler is a terrorist group fronting for an international drug cartel. Days before the election, Darcy and account executive Sean Higgins uncover their secret, but they’re being hunted for a murder they didn’t commit. With both police and terrorists on their trail, they must prove their innocence by exposing the real killers and the plot to overthrow the U.S. Executive Branch.

A MUST READ!

I read this book twice. The second time around was even better. Can’t wait for Deadlock. David Warner is not only a great author, he brings Michigan to your doorstep. A great gift for Christmas too!

Coffee

Coffee

Harriet Bishop, Doctoral student at Dartmouth, discovers odd behavior in the price of coffee on world exchanges. She suspects someone’s illegally cornering the market. But instead of notifying the authorities, she has a unique response that draws her into a firestorm of thrilling action. From the White Mountains of New Hampshire, to the beaches of Brazil, ‘Etty’ tries to stay alive.

“What is your name, son?” Clorice asked sincerely.

“Ernesto, Mr. Clorice. The President did not appreciate your condescending tone tonight. You should take more care. He is a powerful man.”

They stopped to lean on a section of rail. “But I know a young girl who has him doing anything she wants. What power is there in that?” Clorice and Milpeau laughed together.

Ernesto objected. “Your lack of respect is repulsive.” He puffed hard on the glowing cigar. Clorice returned a mocking smile to Ernesto’s taut frown.

Milpeau stepped back from the railing and moved behind the guard. He reached into his side pocket to grip a tobacco aerator, a foot long thin metal shaft with a handle at one end and a pin-sharp point at the other. While the guard looked down to tap the ash from his cigar, Milpeau felt the debilitating force of Clorice’s stare and knew what he must do.

Untethered

Untethered

John Fitzgerald McKnight, born into an unsympathetic Catholic family on the day JFK was assassinated, is a highly educated, multi-lingual, classical composer with a charming, sarcastic wit and a love of women. Right after college, he was tagged as “potentially brilliant” when his piano concerto premiered in New York City. Since that time, he has been quite successful in remaining undiscovered and consistently “unbrilliant.” John is left slogging through meaningless jobs in LA trying to figure out how he fits into the world of music, love and contentment.

While working as a temp at a law firm, he meets optimistic Elizabeth, a sexy entertainment attorney climbing the ladder of success. Together they party their way through Hollywood’s booze-drenched television elite, rubbing elbows with the unsavory rich. Elizabeth is a believer in John’s talents and abilities and enthusiastically puts her foot in his ass to jump-start his career. In a desperate attempt to end his cycle of meaningless, low paying jobs, John asks Elizabeth for an introduction to the world of television music. Although John knows it is beneath his talents to work in this arena, he dives in, only to be bitch slapped by the all-knowing producers. Burnt bridge after burnt bridge leaves John and Elizabeth’s relationship at an impasse. John believes she’s the girl of his dreams, but can’t stop himself from ruining everything and driving Elizabeth away.

John handles this by doing what any decent, insecure, melodramatic artist would do. He stays in his Van Nuys apartment for a full year without ever leaving. He becomes a modern day Robinson Crusoe surviving by sheer cunning. He runs out of money, sells off his prized possessions to the Chinese food delivery guy, discovers a taste for mustard, caper and Cocoa Puff sandwiches, shaves his balls and listens to the music that has made him who he is. But not all is wasted. Wisely, John spends this quality alone time in a vodka soup pot cloud, contemplating string theory, early childhood traumas, and the smell of old lady piano teachers. A lifelong oath to never whore out his musical talents ends when he plays piano for the elderly woman next door – for pizza.

John barely hangs on but after a very sexy, romantic dinner with a pair of Elizabeth’s panties, she inadvertently left behind, he finds his muse again and begins to write. But it ain’t all pansies and poodles. In a moment of desperation, he steals the electricity, telephone and cable tv from his neighbor and a fire subsequently starts in the apartment building. As everyone and everything stands before the grim reaper, John, in his final breaths of smoke clogged air, finally manages to grasp one small part of the puzzle called “life.”

Brilliant, disturbed, mesmerizing, hilarious, and brutally f**ked up. The entire Hollywood enchilada. What’s a creative soul to do when confronted by the entire freaking weight of the universe, not to mention his own missteps?

This sharp satiric book by Scooter Pietsch is as fresh and compelling as it is dark and kinky. At times I couldn’t believe where this author goes, but I couldn’t put it down. I’m glad it’s available on Kindle.

As The World Dies: The First Days-A Zombie Trilogy

As The World Dies: The First Days-A Zombie Trilogy

Two very different women flee into the Texas Hill Country on the first day of the zombie rising. Together they struggle to rescue loved ones, find other survivors, and avoid the hungry undead.

The best damn zombie novel ever!!!

It finally happened, the online sensation from a couple of years ago has reached book form. I read this story in its online serialized form, and even then, I thought it was ready for publication. But if you read it then, don’t worry, Ms. Frater has some surprises up her sleeve, it’s still the the most amazing zombie novel you will ever read.

But just calling it a zombie novel does not do it justice, it is an epic story, dealing with love, death, relationships, and redemption…and zombies of course. You will fall in love with many of the characters, and tear up when, as happens in zombie novels, some of them die. You will cheer on the characters in the fort, as they make their last stand against the zombie hordes, and you will hiss at the bad guys, as they try to take what they want for themselves.

Even if you are not a fan of zombie stories, you will love this one, I had a friend of mine at work, that had never even read a horror novel, much less a zombie novel, read this story, and she was floored. She absolutely fell in love with the characters, and actually cried right there at work when her favorite one died.

I don’t want to spoil anything, it is best read going in cold, so that you can discover the wonder and excitement of this book for yourself. Do yourself a favor, order it today, you will be glad you did, and you will be on pins and needles waiting for the second installment in the trilogy.

Murder in Maris Cove

Murder in Maris Cove

Maris Cove, a delightful haven of beach and ocean. A group of (sometimes) friendly neighbors. The ideal place for you to buy a home or spend your next vacation. If, that is, you don’t mind a threat of murder.

Pat and Phillis solved a murder in THE BODIES OUT BACK. This time, they race to prevent a murder.

“That damned sound again,” Phillis said to herself as she got to her feet and brushed off the beach sand. Aloud, she shouted, “O.K., whoever you are, get out here. Let me see you.” She waited. No movement, no sound from the dunes. Then…something seemed to be taking shape in the fog,. “Who? Oh, it’s you,” she said and heaved a sigh of relief. “You frightened me for a moment. Thought it was someone who shouldn’t have been there. Heading back to the Cove?”

Next time you head for the beach to do a bit of sunning, you better not take this book with you. It might change your whole idea about such a beautiful place.

Once again, Joe Wright has written a top-notch mystery novel. He is a terrifically talented writer who can write a multi-character mystery novel and juggle them all like a master. He expertly creates full-bodied, extremely interesting characters and then weaves them in and out of the storyline like a master chess player.
Mr. Wright also has a knack for writing humorous dialogue. Just when the tension gets to be too much, Mr. Wright has one of the characters utter a line or a word that makes the reader laugh and breaks the tension…but only for a moment. The story is so good that no reader will want to put it down for very long.

The Wrong War

The Wrong War

Agreeing to spy for the Confederacy, Jean-Pierre Mercier, a bilingual McGill student, survives the Battle of Baltimore to join the hundreds of correspondents who have flocked to Washington to report on the forthcoming War Between the States.
A balloon ride brings him to Bull Run.  Appalled by the carnage among the green troops on both sides, he follows a Confederate deserter into the hills of Kentucky where he meets the young Protestant girl who will later become his wife.
Rested, he resumes his mission, spying on the disposition of the Union troops at Mill Run and Shiloh.  Assigned to report on holes in the Union Naval Blockade, he travels down the Mississippi to New Orleans and then across the Southern States by train through Mobile, Macon, Savannah, and Charleston.
Captured at Chancellorsville, he is sent to the Federal prison at Point Lookout.  Once he is free, he heads for home, riding to New York with a trainload of draft protestors.
The man who returns to Montreal, hardened by travel, war, and the constant need to live by his wits, is far different from the boy who left.

Thank you so much. I have been a backend programmer for many years and recently was asked to redesign the UI for an application and I really am not a UI person - my experience is not with HTML or CSS. This book has been so helpful. Better than ones that I have paid for. I would gladly donate a few dollars in thanks to you.

Conspiracy

Conspiracy

Journalism instructor on the outside, unrepentant hippie within, Paul Wilson signs on at a startup newspaper to track down rumors that Bush and Cheney had advance warning of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Two other reporters accompany him to Washington: adventurous Debra, demure but braless, and the more conservative Caitlin, a young Persian-American who plays Candide to Wilson’s Martin. Extracts from Caitlin’s letters and diary (partly recorded in transliterated Farsi) alternate with third-person accounts of the investigation.

To get results, Wilson also has to work with two Arab-American reporters. Only he doesn’t trust them, isn’t sure whether the tales they relay are truth or lies. Though witness after witness corroborates the tale of a conspiracy involving the Vice-President and members of the Saudi royal family, it takes threats from two rogue FBI agents to convince him.

Still, it would be as misleading to characterize Conspiracy as an expose of the corruption and ineptitude of the Bush administration as to describe Cabaret as the story of the Nazis’ rise to power. For above all, Conspiracy is a novel about people, of the relationships among the reporters and those they encounter during the course of their investigation.

Tourists

Tourists

Tourists is a satire describing the situation created when the CIA wants to build a secret air strip in the bush north of Ottawa. A lobbyist is recruited to get the deal done. The plan is threatened by publicity generated by the Taylor brothers whose land is to be expropriated. The situation is complicated by clandestine meetings held in a van driven on the Rideau Canal during Winterlude.

Hal Henderson made a good living in Ottawa for a while as a private detective. He was known to everyone as “Henny”, short for Henderson. He picked up the nickname in high school.

There were many lawyers who employed Henny’s services to dig up dirt on politicians and sneaky spouses in the nation’s capital. When Henny got greedy, he tempted some of the wrong people into compromising situations, some with drugs, most with girls. He recorded everything. The rich and famous were willing to pay Henny off, but he asked too much. The police charged him after a victim complained about blackmail. It went downhill from there.
