Nano Wars is a techno-thriller of a world unknowingly gripped in conflict by the emergence of dark uses of nano technology and the amazing nano based devices and weaponry it brought with it, a new era of hybrid soldiers and warfare. Nano Technology had been introduced into society with much fanfare, specifically in the medical field and had generated new levels of investments in medical companies utilizing such technology based procedures. However, as the nano based procedures were made available, their costs proved to be too costly for the masses. This caused a tremendous tremor in nano companies as they scrambled to reinvent themselves or close operations. This tremor caused a severe crack in morality, out of which was born a new form of espionage and warfare. Any force armed with this technology is invisible to their enemy, able to kill hundreds, thousands, in seconds and can penetrate any facility at will. The problem, this technology was introduced by the wrong side and it is DATIS’s job to recreate itself, fast. DATIS is scrambling to meet this challenge by creating a new hybrid army molded out of new soldier classifications and weapons, but time is short and the world is hanging in the balance.

Warning: Don’t read this if you are looking for something written at an 8th grade level. This story is written purposefully in an archaic and more flowery style than is common these days. It’s an adventure, but a descriptive one.
A good book with a very interesting story. I really enjoyed it and found only one small flaw. A few times the author uses language that seems too formal. It seems as though the author is used to writing and reading masters level material and the wording doesn’t fit with the story sometimes. But maybe thats just me reacting to the use of the word “Irregardless” which is a word I hate with a passion. LOL

I don’t expect you to believe this story, but it is the truth. My name is Alexander Ashton….
Mysteriously Transported to the artificial world of Ecos, Earth man Alexander Ashton struggles to understand the society of his new friends, the humanoid Amatharians. As he does so, he finds himself falling in love with their princess and being thrust into a millennium-long war with their mortal foes the reptilian Zoasians. As Alexander crosses the endless landscape of a fantastic hollow world to rescue the woman he loves but does not know, he encounters alien life forms and strange cultures, bizarre monsters and ancient ruins that point to the mystery of the artificial world.
She drew her long sword and I followed suit. We nodded respectfully to one another. Then with a skill and speed born of battle, Vena Remontar charged at me, bringing her blade down directly toward my face. I raised my own to block the stroke, and just as quickly she swung two more blows. The only thing I could do was take the offensive, so as I blocked the third blow, I swung my weapon on around in a great arc toward her side. The woman was off balance from her attack, so the only way she could block the arc of weapon, was to turn her back on me, and swing her blade outward to meet mine. I expected that this would offer me a chance to attack her back, but it didn’t. As soon as she had done so, she tucked and rolled forward, spinning as she rose to face me. This was a brilliant maneuver and would have put several yards between us, but I wasn’t ready to let up. Using my gravity-enhanced strength, I jumped forward, almost landing on top of her. Vena Remontar thrust quickly several times. I blocked those attacks and countered.
Princess of Amathar is a sword-swinging novel of high adventure in the tradition of Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Risking his life for duty’s sake, Woody discovers far more truth than he bargained for.
Calling Out Your Name is a headlong rush through characters and events both intriguing and menacing – a coming-of-age journey that is by turns inspiring and starkly compelling.
“Ned White has created a memorable hero…(and) a wonderful, adventurous coming-of-age story that takes the Georgia teenager on a daring journey from Macon to Malibu and from adolescence to maturity.”
- Don O’Briant, former book editor for Atlanta Journal Constitution
“The heart of the main character remains true throughout the book no matter what name he is using. Life lessons, coping strategies and people skills develop as the young man travels across the country. Description and narrative blend seamlessly to create a book that is readable, informative and entertaining. City of Masks is a swashbuckling adventure in a setting reminiscent of Shakespeare’s Italy (complete with twins). In the city-state of Bonvidaeo, by custom and law everyone must wear a mask and act in character with it, or face civil, social and religious penalties. Gregorius Bass is sent to Bonvidaeo as the Envoy of Calaria, primarily to get him out from underfoot. Masked as the Innocent Man, and in the company of his radical young Bonvidaoan servant, Bass stumbles into mystery, intrigue, heresy and murder.
I picked city of masks up as an audio podcast through iTunes and loved it even though I started somewhere in the middle (iTunes is funny like that). I quickly went and picked up the parts I was missing. It was an entertaining read.
The premise is unique: a city (country) where everyone wears a mask which fixes their social role in society. That got me reading the book, but the murder mystery that is at the heart of the story kept me reading. There was also a good dash of romance, and plenty of courtly intrigue. I’d recommend it to anyone interested in fantasy or mystery who is looking for a new twist on the historical courtly society.

It’s that nasty, nasty smell. That smell bothers me more than anything about a hangover. Not the pounding headache. Not even the way your hands or any other part of your body seem to respond in slow motion. It’s almost like you’ve been bathing in some sort of cleaner. Or maybe even diesel fuel. Canadian Mist and Coke — it tastes so smooth going down. And ever since the guys at the camp introduced it to me a few years back it alone has been my drink of choice.
The next day however when you’re schlepping around in the heat and it begins evaporating from every pore in your body there’s only one way to get rid of it and the stench, sweat. And sweating is what I was doing. A lot.
As I am swinging away with the sledgehammer, I am trying with my best psychic ability to will away the smell. Yet it seems like every time I lift the three-pound sledge over my head another whiff of my armpits make me nearly want to puke. I think nature programmed that smell to enter your nostrils and seek out that very specific molecule deep in your body that triggers the gag reflex and smack it nice and hard across the face.

Barracuda is a fast-paced story where international intrigue, environmental catastrophe, and cultural pride collide. Even on vacation, recuperating NYPD cop Mick O’Shaughnessy is still a detective at heart. When the Russian Mafia and Japanese Yakuza rock the island paradise of Bikini Atoll over an international money laundering scheme and a territorial war, O’Shaughnessy refuses to fly away from the chaos until safety and justice prevail. But when a mutant barracuda begins snacking on the tourists, Mick really has his hands full. Written in whip-smart prose, Barracuda is a power-packed, wildly entertaining adventure; truly the catch of the day!
The historical significance of Bikini Atoll and the underwater depictions in Barracuda are well researched, incorporating the history of Pacific A-Bomb testing following World War II. Monahan expertly incorporates authentic scuba-diving knowledge and proper police procedures into the plot, characters, and scenic detail. Readers who appreciate the aquatic action of JAWS, the mob intrigue of The Godfather, and the police procedural sense of The Onion Field, will enjoy Barracuda.
“Take the bait! Read this book! You’ll be hooked!”
You don’t need to be a police officer, a scuba diver expert or a fisherman to enjoy this one, folks. It doesn’t matter if you are male or female. What you do need is to set aside your time, have your meals for the day already prepared and find a comfortable seat. Let the answering machine answer your calls.
Mike Monahan brings us from New York to an island on the South Pacific, filled with history, conspiracies, money laundering, greed, danger and a very big fish with an even bigger attitude.
There really isn’t much more that I can say on this one. “Barracuda” hooked me from the start and just never let go. I highly recommend it. Hook, line and sinker. Case closed.
